kill your television
ok, so i am not much of a tv watcher, really. of shows that are on, currently, i try to watch at most four:
- LOST
- Veronica Mars
- Gilmore Girls – series cancelled, and the last season without the Palladinos was not so good
- Battlestar Galactica – on hiatus until its next season, whenever that is
So really, that gives me three, since GG has been not only not so good, but more or less expected to be cancelled since Team Palladino left in dudgeon last May.
Except, actually, I have two, because the CW has cancelled Veronica Mars without actually cancelling it, officially – because the fans are so devoted and rabid, they want to put off the final ax. Isn’t that like stopping calling someone and hoping they know you are breaking up with them? Or, moving out by just not renewing your lease, and waiting for the time to expire?
And then, tonight, the LOST finale … all I’ll say, is I’m disappointed and they are going to have to really pull some kind of freaking cool rabbit out of the hat eight months from now to make me care again. It was dicey at best this season – very uneven, great episodes followed by filler – but these last four or five weeks have been really good TV. and, arguably, so was the finale until the last three minutes! i am not saying, for those of you who watch and know, that what they did had to be a mistake, but my training and background in literature makes me feel that it nearly had to be a narrative misstep, given the long hiatus. In any case, I can’t imagine that I am the only one who feels a bit deflated, and that’s not normally good for ratings.
Apparently, like art, life repeats itself, as BG says: “All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.” [sorry, but it’s probably true, at least as far as this blog is concerned.]
Sigh. Harry Potter better not be a horcrux. Or a dream. Or something stupid.
